Yes, it has been done. The silver looks new. Could be well preserved or a recent replate. You would need an in-person inspection to try to determine what the situation is. Even then, an analysis could be tough. It's only an impression, based on a photo, but I think this is likely
a replated example. The ss degen looks like one up for question here a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty much agreed it it not good.

The portepee looks like a Landzoll knot. Is the hilt aluminium? Not early SS imo,but might be a sabre for Land Customs official.

Good advice IMO. Preferably in sunlight. With perhaps some special attention to the insides of the langets (is that a reddish oxide?) and other areas that are sometimes overlooked. FP
