Looks very promising. What are the tang & inner crossguard markings look like?

Is there a grip eagle? Are you implying that the crossguards are nickel silver? If it looks like it was made yesterday, it probably was.

The grip looks a little too smooth, and the grain is a little too coarse, so I'd like to see the holes in the top and bottom of the grip. The blade looks promising, but a close up would help to be sure not laser etched, and a check for the CAH tang marking. I think the cross guards are plated, which they should be. For some reason, the plating on these are better than most RZM daggers of the period.

billy - you've seen these now over at waf. will reply to your excellent, thoughty PM shortly...
btw - if the guards are magnetic that means plated and not 'solid nickel' I b'lieve.

hi dons - seen my interesting tho slightly tortured thread on waf? has new pix now of nickel eagle, tang mark, billet clamp etc. check it out.
now, how do I know if guards are what wittmann calls 'solid nickel' or thin-plated like a late rzm sa? and why would that be a deal-killer?
one small triumph: I lately found the under lug scabb number: a colleague tho uncertain re the dagg says the b'muller scabb is real. I like that in a scabbard... ;---)

re motto: kindly kolleague frogprince says its NOT laser-etched.
re guards: does magnet tell plated from what wittmann likes to call 'solid nickel?' and this is a potential deal-killer because...?

Looked at the photos over at WAF, and this is what I see. The crossguards are plated die castings which is correct. The blade tang and forgers mark along with motto and MM look OK. I've seen both NS & zinc grip eagles in late pieces so nothing wrong here. The scabbard is the big question. Burgsmuller scabbards come with short and long lugs, but the long lugs I've seen have 2 sets of double lines. It's a mismatch at best. If the dagger is a fake (other than the scabbard) it's a damn good one. Ron's expertise is needed here.

I'm inclined to think it's fine. The grip may have been sanded/re-lacquered. The scabbard may have been repainted. Someone may have rubbed the tang down to highlight the markings better. I have seen some fakes at the shows, and none have been this good. I'd like to see this one in person.

Didn't take long for this dagger to hit the auction block.

From what I read here and on WAF, the consensus seems to be that this is a correct Eickhorn blade and a correct Burgsmuller scabbard.
Put the two together, and it is being sold as a parts dagger based on the pricing I see on it.
Seems like the right thing to do.
