Vin,, if Reddicks scare you your best get out now.. He's nothing compared to the fakes out there.
Check out paper I.D.s,,they fake they so good now days that no one can agree on them as to whats good and whats not.
Same with much of cloth insignia.
Medals/badges,,you'll need several hundred dollars in books just to collect the once simple pieces ...

Get into one area, study, ask, get to the shows to handle,,then buy something you like...
IF your in this for investment I'll tell you right now you'll lose..........

Gaspare, when I started to collect way back in 1964, there were no books at all. Actually started in 1955 when I traded comic books for TR medals, belt buckles, etc. Had no idea what I had!

At least Reddick lists his items as reproductions. Some are obviously so, some pretty high quality reproductions. Gaspare is right. There are those who intentionally fake any number of items and represent them as authentic. Crooks, really. Some of Reddick's items can be helpful tto collectors needing hard to find original parts. Most of his repro items are fairly easily identified by a knowledgeable collector. Earlier dagger reproductions can be problem. Helmets, especially SS examples, are faked on a wholesale basis. The same is true of tunics and caps. Unfortunately, such comes with the hobby, as it does with many
hobbies. Get educated on what's real
and what's not. It takes time, research and study. Ask opinions of knowledgeable collectors (sometimes even they vary). No doubt, the hobby is scary. Don't buy anything unless you are as sure as you can be of its authenticity and always insist on a fair return privilege.
