Gentlemen

I would appreciate your thoughts on this K98 I am contemplating acquiring.

Do you see any red flags?

Gustavo,
As was previously mentioned, you really need more & better pictures to get an informed opinion. I'm not sure about the sling, but it's probably OK. The bolt release should be numbered and appears not to be. Ask specifically for pictures of the stock numbers and the trigger group - including the screws. Now days, a matching original S/42 1937 would sell for $1,500 and up, so be cautious.
I would recommend posting it at http://www.k98kforum.com/
These guys know what they are talking about.

Does it have a crest on the stock near the butt plate in the first photo? It may be my monitor, but it almost looks like a Portuguese crest making it a contract overrun rifle for Portugal. A 1937 would be in the right time frame.

Yes, I have gotten a better image. It is the Portuguese seal, which someone had attempted to file off. Thanks for your thoughts

It's still a nice looking rifle, but probably never served in the German army so some collectors see them as less valuable. Of course there are probably some collectors that would pay a premium for marking.
