a friend of mine bought this pistol and holster at an auction. this lanyard was wrapped around it. we were wondering if it was a japanese lanyard or something the g.i. added to it. thanks paul

Whether the strap is Japanese or otherwise, I don't think it is a Japanese pistol lanyard. The type 14 lanyard was circular and woven and more brown than that strap.

Yes. NOT a standard issue pistol lanyard. I do not recognize it. Clip is not Japanese style

Here is a standard 6mm diameter lanyard for a Nambu type 14. There are no clips. The two ends are sewn together inside a leather sleeve. There is also a sliding leather keeper.

I am told that original lanyards such as this one are fairly valuable and hard to find.

Hard to say from those photos. If I was serious I'd request close ups like the great ones you posted.
