SS Eagles ID Challenge #251284 09/03/2011 04:30 PM Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 14,978 Likes: 68 Southeast Dave OP OP Dave Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 14,978 Likes: 68 Southeast I recently started a thread with 20 close-ups of SS runes and challenged everyone to ID the maker of the dagger. 10 of the 20 were successfully identified. Some members said that they might do better at eagles. Soooooooo, following are 22 eagle. 21 are from maker-marked early SS daggers - No RZM 120/121 etc, and 1 eagle is from a "transitional" or double proofed SS dagger. Some daggers are the same as in the runes thread, others are not. The ones in Blue I filled in. Many thanks to all who participated. What I will do in a day or two is remove all the posts that were made trying to ID the eagles. You are welcome to add your own SS eagles after I have done that. As with the thread about SS rune buttons, I hope this convinces you that: 1. There are more variations of eagles than is usually thought. Close up photography really helps point this out. 2. That you should never reject an SS dagger because of the eagle details. Does anyone know of the manufacturer(s) of the grip eagles of these SS daggers? Does anyone have an original apart from the grip, and is it marked/RZM'd ? I search my Assmann catalog copy and could find no example of this peculiar eagle. It is not a party eagle per se. Thank for any info. I posted this on WAF but the response was limited. Collectors indicated only two manufacturers: Assmann M1/17 and C.T. Dicke M1/47. Any photos of catalogs or the eagles themselves? Thanks.
