I wish the pitures were better, but the dagger looks good to me.

The cross guards and the grip look OK. The number by itself I'm not sure about, this size is smaller than I've seen. The frog is not the standard Oxblood color, but would need to see the reverse of the frog. Also, would like to see the underside of the lug, and make sure the ball is steel, part of the scabbard(not an added k98 ball)The top throat of the scabbard looks overly rounded, but a picture of the opening with out the dagger would help. The blade, I would need better pictures and pictures of the tang. Overall, I'd say a definite maybe.

The frog stud looks more like WMW, Burgsmüller frog stud is different, but the scabbard could have been switched at some point. I'd say the dagger is eventually a good one, but those pictures are unsufficient to make any firm opinion. Frog leather colour is also hard to judge, just because photography (lightning, computer screen settings etc.) can cheat the eye, let alone the 70+ years and maybe exposure to direct sunlight (dagger hanging on the sunny room's wall). For the complete analyse of any dagger and NPEA particularly, one needs to look what's inside the crossguards and what's the tang marking. Anyway the dagger makes good impression on me.

Well, not much to see on the tang. Maybe there is some marking, but I can't see it. According to Ron Weinand's NPEA daggers books (a must read for anyone who's looking for Napola dagger), this type of Burgsmüller blade is associated with "double arrow" or "backwards P and 4" tang markings. Aluminium crossguards of such dagger should be marked internally with letters E - W or a large dot.

The tang end of this blade appears to be full of pits and casting flaws. It also appears to have never been polished and ground. This along with the absence of a foundry mark and other red flags tell me to stay away from this piece.

Such inner marking (a dot) is correct for late Burgsmüller.

Some aluminum cross guards are internal marked E W for Ernst Witte a manufacturer of component parts I believe. Ron Weinand's book is very helpful: Waffenleite Presenting NPEA Daggers of the Third Reich

That's right, it's a first thing to read before buying your first NPEA dagger. Spending $60 or 70, whatever, may save you from losing few thousand bucks.

I am offering a 10% discount to GD.com members, so, if you are ordering, mention the site and I will sign and discount the book to $57.50 plus shipping. Ron Weinand
