Well off for the rest of the week. I hope to find a ring at the SOS for my collection. As the years go by finding something new becomes a problem , but a good problem.
I'll try and get some photos of whats there in Honor rings and private purchase.

Well another SOS has come and gone.. I picked up no rings. In fact there were more fakes than authentic pieces.

There were only a few fake Honor rings and maybe 10 authentic Honor rings.
Even less authentic private purchase.

For me it is a chance to see my old buddies in person at a place we can have some fun at. Plenty of things to see, long days on your feet on concrete floors. Poor food, bad drinks but we all love it and wouldn't miss it for the world.

For those that have never seen it its hard to imagine over 1000 tables full of all sorts of militaria. It IS a site to behold.
Poor photos this year,[and not many] many wouldn't give permission, and we were busy on the hunt. The photos don't do the place justice but here they are.

Here's a unique one.

Appears to be a custom made piece. No telling if it's period or not.
Don was there with the buyer and myself. Each of us studying it. Don stated the skull was the same size as the early HR skulls, and the band is very close to specs also.

I noticed and can be seen here that the skull is a separate piece soldered on.
Who knows what this can be? , a ring for one who didn't qualify for a HR and just had to have one.
A SS vet who had it made up afterwards.
A soldier from another branch of service [non SS, - KM? Heer? Luft.?] who just had to have one of those cool rings and had this custom made.

- can tell you the silver has a nice tone. That the quality looks to be period, nice work on it and a happy new owner..

So thats it, promise to take more photos next year and a better HR report...Until the next SOS!!

Wow, that is an interesting ring, Gaspare. Definitely worthy of further study. I bought 1 original SS Ring from the family of the veteran - they came in on Friday or Saturday. I will post pictures later. I also bought 1 private purchase ring that I want to get you copies of for your book. As is the case with any private-purchase ring, it's hard to judge with certainty the authenticity, but this one looked good enough for me.
