Janjan, you have the first edition. A second revised edition in larger format without paper jacket was published some years ago. Curiously, Patzwall failed to date this second edition. But what is curious is his list of 2nd Model BO recipients and awarding date periods. His book is well documented in his discussion of the BO, save for this section at the end of the book. Does anyone know from where he acquired the info to create this list?

Joe,
I have seen the list of those awarded the 2nd pattern which I think were found in the National Archive some years ago. But still no key to put the names and numbers together as of yet.

I would like to know more about the ribbon bar device. How rare is it to find? Is it marked in silver content? Are there forgeries?

Joe,
Not much is really known about the ribbon devices other than there appears to be two different types. My example is made of actual BO ribbon and was probably worn on the lapel while Johns looks like a more traditional ribbon bar. The lapel ribbon type seems to have been only included with 1st pattern medals.

Thanks Erich,
So it was an issued piece and not a commercial purchase?

Not sure, could have been an extra but not enough is known about their purpose. All the ribbon devises like my example were found with cased examples so it's anyone's guess.

Hmmm, guessing, the ribbons could be period. The devices look sad, two are lacking detail and two either are bent or have extra material along the edges. The LS I have not seen before and would have been represented differently. Have seen Blood Orders on a single ribbon but not on a bar that I recall. Don't feel that is a blood order ribbon anyway.
Any reverse pic. ?

Make that some of the ribbons may be good. The NSDAP ribbon is also not good upon looking closer. Plus the fact that the 25 would be worn with the 15 and 10 year ribbon with devices also. --dj--Joe

There was no ribbon bar device for the BO. The others aren't good either IMO.

Looks like John P did not have a problem with the BO device at some point in time.

Yes, he liked the device but I don't. There was no authorized ribbon bar for the BO. The ribbon device that i posted was for a lapel.

A little eye candy, about time I posted some up here on GD.com. Here we have a recent(ish) trio of 1st patterns. and a really cool early 2nd pattern I picked up. Appears to have been drilled at some point , maybe for a key chain or necklace? Shows much wear but still highly collectable in my mind, with a cracking photo pulled from the archives :}

Here is an update from my collection of blood orders. These are all 1st type medals. Getting tough to find more but they do come along time to time. I guess it helps people knowing I collect them hard and deal straight, in that I get offers when its time to sell :]

This has been shown before, Loeper's low numbered Blutorden. I was looking for ages and fortunate to find this signed studio portrait of him and a fellow collector found an article with his funeral pillow showing this very medal and the GPB. I'm still searching for a photo of him wearing the medal, he died less than a year after its award but there must have been some photos taken in uniform with it on!

Great stuff Jon and it's great that you were able to get the article and photo of the pillow to go with the grouping!

Thanks Erich, it was courtesy of Sepp over on the WAF, the guy who updates the thread on funeral pillows. So I was very lucky and very grateful. Now of course the crowning glory would be him wearing the medal!

I am still enjoying collecting Blutorden. Looking forwards to visiting the SOS in Feb 22, meeting some old faces and hopefully finding something for my collection. Get in touch if you want to meet or might have something for me!

Thank you Dave. I'll be around at the SOS 22, looking forwards to catching up with old chums State side. Here is a sweet medal, awarded to one of the 2 son's in this photo, father and both sons holders of the Blood Order.
