Wow! Judging by the rest of the knife, I'd say that is the original protective backing paper. What a screamer! and blade dated too! Wow!!!!

Thanks Jerry. I'm thinking that the backing paper might be original also. I'm going to leave it on unless I get absolute confirmation that it is not original. The darker areas on the blade is where the goo/cosmolene was. I also have the leather tie that was with it, but forgot to put it back on before I took the pictures. A Japanese frog was tied to this M6 scabbard with the leather tie. I don't know why as it was the only Japanese item in the group.
