Hello nicksofar, let me first welcome you to the forum. Unfortunately I have to tell you that for a collector of original items of the III.R., this dagger does not have any value. It is a well known phantasy piece which never was produced during 33-45. There also do exist some variants of this phantasy dagger also beeing pure phantasy. Sorry that I cannot tell you better news, perhaps it is collectible at its own but I dare to doubt that. Regards,

I'm afraid that wotan is correct in his assessment of the knife that is posted. Not a particularly high volume item, these are postwar fantasy items. There are also "Krupp" U-Boat watch cases, compasses, and at a minimum 4 or 5 (or more) styles of the knives. With multiple scabbard/markings variants for the "Krupp" knives as well. With at least two dates seen, 1943 is what is normally encountered. (There is even an "SS" version of the "Krupp" knife.) Posted below: one of the different handle variants. FP

A "Fhrer Fabrik Krupp" U-Boat watch case. Look at the outline of the submarine. Looking a lot like a more modern attack submarine, does anybody remember seeing a WW II German U-Boat with a silhouette like this? FP

I'd jump at it if I could get $800 for such a piece For E50, it's a fair price to pay for such an oddity. An expensive letter opener if you will.

cant be that odd Ive seen that before probably on ebay. Looks like a postwar fantasy turned on a lathe.Doesnt even have any hard handmade work to create it. I dont think its worth that much.

Ill have to dig out some images that I have to illustrate some of the ideas. But in the interim Im in agreement that these daggers had a lot of handwork which is why they dont have the look of a factory made piece. That said, some of the minor components were (relatively speaking) mass produced via casting so that they could be attached to the daggers. Or in the case of the writing/logo on the blade - done with rotary engraving like certain other daggers. FP

nice piece there nats. My only question of these daggers is for what reason someone who want to make replicas to use expensive materials to made them. These daggers are made of solid brass and have also a part of gold... Also another question is if someone has the knowledge and materials to make good replicas why not make replicas of already known expensive daggers?

Some legitimate questions: quote: ..... My only question of these daggers is for what reason someone who want to make replicas to use expensive materials to made them. In the 1960's gold was $35.00 an ounce, and the one cent pennies were made from copper at a profit to the mint (brass is mostly copper). In 1943 copper was heavily conserved for the war effort to be used in making things like tanks, and submarines etc. Which is why in the late 1930's German blade makers makers went from using brass and nickel silver (which is 2/3 copper) fittings to substitute materials like iron, aluminum, and eventually zinc. The "Krupp" daggers are: 1) not replicas - there were custom made creations made to deceive 2) they are not that well made IMO - showing poor workmanship. For example, like " certain" well discussed daggers: they have machine (rotary) engraved signature blocks (the supposed Krupp factory "logo"). Which interestingly enough IMO was also done by an amateur. Who substituted the (relatively) easy to do swastika inside a circle, instead of using the more intricate actual Krupp logo - which is to the right. FP

This knife is a newer to me fake of a fake myth (that IMO might have come from Asia). Of course the fakers did not stop with fake PW blades, some even branched out into watches.
