The Tapper og Tro medal was instituted by Quisling as a bravery award for Norwegian frontfighters, those Norwegians who fought against the Russians while serving in the German armed forces.

There were three classes of this award, Knight's Cross, and a First and Second Class.

Shortly after the first few were awarded, the Germans forbade it to be worn by members of their military, since they wanted the Iron Cross to be the military bravery award.

Here is the Quisling Cross 2nd Class

There were a number of these medals produced that were not able to be given out, so the Quisling government decided to modify this medal by adding a suncross, their national symbol, to the award and reclassifying it as a civilian bravery award.

Here is the civilian 2nd Class award.

John Z,

Thanks for taking time to put this and so many other fine posts together for us, it's not often that we get to see these rare, foreign-volunteer pieces. When they're as well-kept as your examples, it makes it all that much better.

Very, very nice.

Best!
