Can anyone advise of the method by which political scabbard balls can be made spherical again?

I use a tool I designed that goes into the ball and will expand it. Then another tool that goes in and can be tapped against with a small hammer to smooth it out. In some sever cases, I remove half of the ball, use a punch to get the shape correct, and solder the halves back together.
Some repair folks just cut the ball off and replace it with a solid piece, or coat it with silver solder and file it back to shape, but I don't think that's a reasonable way to fix the fitting.
Following are photos of some examples.

Vern: Isn't there a similiar type tool made to take the dents out of scabbards after removing the runners? Jim

Jim, yes, I made tools for scabbards also. They work best if you put a clamp around the outside of the scabbard over the dent. That way, it will push up the dent without bulging the scabbard. Otherwise, the scabbard shell just bulges out with the dent still there, and you could split the scabbard side seams if the tool pushes too much. Paul, I haven't taken any photos of the tools but I'll see what I can do

Hello Vern,
Just wondering if you are still offering dagger ball repairs. I may be getting a nice SS EM with a completely mushroomed ball which begs for your artful intervention! My email is rala2@yahoo.com.
Cheers,

Vern is out of town this week with no email. I know he still does this work, but wait and check with him as I do not know how soon he can get to it.

I remember seeing a period news reel shot in a German beer hall. This SA guy is pretty drunk and is seen singing and banging his SA dagger in it's scabbard on the table.Bet that ball was flat by the time the night was over!
