As I have stated before SS cloth is not my field. My friend has this eagle and asked if I would post this and get some opinions on it?

I was not aware that the Third Reich used the hummingbird as well as the eagle as an insignia.

Looks like a starving vulture to me.
This truly must have been sewn by a one handed blind person in the dark.

Mann. I don't collect this stuff for this reason. If you buy something that doesn't look good people make a clown out of you! I told my friend I will post no more of his items because it makes me look like the fool. I am sure he isn't the only one who has ever gotten burned on ss items.

...SSman,,as to why you singled out my comment to make a point, I haven't a clue.
simply MY honest opinion I assure,,made in jest only, no disrespect intended.
I'm very sorry for anything misinterpreted above that, (or any of the other previously posted forum members comments.)
I get burned @ an average that grows almost every purchase. Improves my diligence and aim!
Cheers,
Paul

Sorry Paul. Didn't mean to single you out because it wan't my intention. My friend always asks me to post this stuff for opinions and I feel like it is me who gets the flak and that is why I told him if things don't look even close I will not post them for him anymore!

Don't feel bad, we all at one time or another post things outside our areas of expertise that get made fun of.
Can't find the post, a couple years back I posted a Goering cufftitle for opinions, it looked fit to be worn by Bozo the clown. It was blue and fuzzy with crooked lettering, of course it got slammed and made fun of, I felt pretty lame for even posting it - But it answered my question.
Live n learn ,,, But it probably is better for people to post their own stuff instead of posting as a favor.

You are 100% correct Doug. The funny thing is this guy claims he gets all of his stuff from vets but I told him in this hobby that doesn't mean they are original. The ss hat eagle I listed right below this looks like some I seen on WAC. The metal eagle is from a different guy.

cool Wink
,,just yesterday I mailed a decent PAB off in trade. Fifteen minutes later I was buying what looked very close to what I had just been holding...it took me five minutes online, YOU GUESSED IT!...80's repro. Eek
Indeed, it is easier to buy than sell!
Cheers

Not at all uncommon for repro to be mixed with legit, in the same cigar box, all sitting undisturbed for perhaps decades.
You figure, guys brought some legit stuff back home in the 1940s. This may have sparked an interest with their kids, or reignited it when they browse through it a few years later.
They go on buying sprees, stuff was cheap back then, and of course the repros were around then too.
They probably don't even think about or care, if it was manufactured in Germany pre 1945. So it all eventually gets tossed back into the same box, where it is discovered and offered for sale decades later.
They swear its all good, cause it came from their great uncle the war vet.
I've seen it happen alot, and you just gotta pick through it, putting things in 3 categories.
* Good
* Bad
* Questionable

Well guys. The fakes are getting better but still usually something about them that is a giveaway! As for the hat eagle I posted pictures of it is funny that on WAC the ones with silver finish remaining are good but the cupal ones that have no finish in their books are not! I stay away fron ss items as much as possible except thing that really look good such as rodo ss buckles!

I believe that Souval was back up and running within 6 months of the end of the conflict, so some of the earliest 'reproductions' are now 65 years old and well aged.
