Thought I'd show a small police grouping I have with a rural police bayonet. It has some finish off of the end of the pommel and has what looks like someone used a ball point pen to mark up the scabbard(period?). Has anyone tried to remove ink from leather without messing it up? The frog has Maury & Co. and the date 1938 stamped on the back. I wouldn't think a German police officer would have marked his equipment like that would you? Regards, Walter

Nice grouping. Thanks for showing. The frog appears to be a rural type, however, the scabbard leather seems to be somewhat darker than on the average rural piece imo.

Nice Police grouping you have here your unit marked Luger and bayonet has a soul. I have a LPO8 rig with Maury & Co on the leather so it looks like they were around for awhile.

In hand, it appears lighter then in the picture and also in 2nd photo you can see where someone used an ink pen near the frog. Walter

The L.Ar on the luger stands for Landjagerei(rural police) of the Prussian administrative district of Arnsberg. And S.W.I. on the bayonet means Schutzpolizei(state protection police) of Frankfurt am Main in the Prussian admintstrative district of Weisbaden. Regards, Walter

Very nice police grouping. Some of the police pieces have a unique look to them. I can see why a lot of guys collect this stuff. I was lucky enough many years ago to run into a police belt and buckle that still had an SS shoulder strap attached. It went to another well-known collector on trade. I wish now that I could get it back, but it is now long gone. I have a police pistol and holster that would go nice with them.

If you wouldn't mind, could I see some more pics of the Luger? I have a fondness for those. From your first pic, it looks like it has a sear safety. Could you post pics of the toggle assembly and the year date? I see it has an aluminum bottom mag.

There's a few more Third Reich Lugers I wouldn't mind having. I wouldn't mind picking up a few of the imperial unit marked ones later down the road. I'm thinking I kind of like those. Dow was being very modest; he's got some neat imperial ones.

I have a doubt on his luger ... does not it have any manufacturer's brand?

Though if it has brand in the hilt of the department or barrack of service.
Also I am fond of the pistola Luger ... I possess a nice " black widow " byf41.

Hello coto, the pistola is a 29 DWM police gun with Weimer markings, sometimes refered to as a "sneak luger". These were assembled by DWM for a Moroccan contract but diverted to the German police. Regards, Walter

I saw your Luger the other day and I hadn't had a chance to get back to you. First thing I thought of was sneak Luger too, it seems like I've known that slang name for long time. But I really don't know much about the earlier Lugers. These are a collecting field within themselves. I also read the two Luger forums on occasion, I read more than I do anything else there. I just have two at the present moment, TR era. I generally don't buy one unless I stumble on it at a good price. The last one with I kind of got obsessed with and had to have it. It was too pretty to let get away. I had been looking for a military police; it was a local find.

That's a very very nice luger, certainly a good one to have in your collection. You should be proud of that rig. I have a pair of 1937 s/42 military models, one strawed and one not. Thanks for letting me view your luger. Walter
