As usual, I took a few pictures at the MAX show and I have been busy culling the blurred ones out and resizing the others.
Here are those I took Wednesday which was drop-off day. Weather was reasonably warm but overcast.
The Hotel was newly refurbished and even the outside was repainted a cream color instead of black.

Well,, that's it for Wednesday. It was just a drop-off day with no setting up or selling.
Back to the Hotel.
I have many more pics which I will post as soon as I can resize them.

This year, Jhonny V was not able to be at the MAX but Sergei was kind enough to offer a poor little orphan girl named Helga a place at his table.

For those that couldn't make the MAX - well there were plenty of 'rare' items to see. This one by Tom W. a 3rd Railway- was IMO- the Dagger Show Stopper. -Ever seen one?

Saturday.
Cool morning but full sunshine. The hotel looks good in light colors rather than the dark finish that made it look like Darth Vader's earthside retreat

My impressions of the show.
Foreign buyers were there in large numbers and had money because of strong currencies. Russian buyers have moved up quite a bit in the quality of the items they buy.
If you had top conditioned item reasonably priced you did well. If you had rare items sought by mainstream collectors you did even better. If you were selling generic swords, common SA/Luftwaffe/Army daggers, you mostly hauled them home with you. Same applies to helmets that were deemed less than 100% genuine.
The venue, as mentioned last year was very good in my opinion. The check in process got sorted out and was much improved.
The food was better than expected at this kind of venue. The hot dogs and pizza were OK. Beware the (alleged) Kielbasa sausage as it stays and stays and stays with you for a while. Still the garlic level keeps the vampire at a distance
Happy collecting Dave

Dave, Thank you for an excellent presentation. You've put a lot of time and effort in not only taking the pix, but in posting them. For those of us who couldn't be there, it was very educational. Hope to see you all at the SOS! Only 4 more months....

Dave, Bob C,
That is a great photo reportage of the show, thank you very much!
I have been told that a big HJ knife collection has been sold on this year's MAX; Does anyone knows who's collection it was?
Best greetings,
Herman

Hi Herman,
I saw the collection on friday night while having a beer in Paul Hogle's hotel room, never saw so many HJ knifes in my life, there must've been at least 200 daggers in that box. Collection came from Joe Pankowsky ( sorry for the spelling ).

Hi All: Thanks Dave for photographing my exhibit. For those who couldn't make it, here's a few pics of the items I had in my display "Making History Personal." I am collector as well as a researcher. I purchased the M40 SS helmet several years ago unresearched by the seller when I found the Czaika was KIA in Poland in 1944. Enjoy! Ross Kelbaugh www.ssdaggers.com

I was able to identify the Trster Allgemeine-SS cap by his SS number on the inside label. I was excited to find his photo in the NSDAP membership files. He was MIA in Russia in 1942. Enjoy! Ross Kelbaugh www.ssdaggers.com

I was fortunate to acquire this name only partial Rhm from Paul Hogle this year. It had been acquired and researched by Bernie Brul and is pictured in Vol. VII of Tom Johnson's Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich. Bernie was able to find the SS man to whom this belonged and contacted him and sent him photos of the dagger in the the 1980s. The original owner responded in the letter on the left that this was indeed his dagger and it was collected after the Rhm revolt. When he got it back, the Rhm name had been removed and his SS number had been engraved. The original owner went on to say that he had not seen it since the Canadian troops came through his area at the end of the war. Bernie purchased it in the 1970s at a Canadian military fair. I was able to find photos of him in the Archives and his signature on the letter matched the documents in his Race & Settlement File from the 1930s. I like this kind of stuff!

Here are a few of my identified SS daggers. I am particularly interested in those that I can put a face with. That is an unground Rhm in the center that was originally unidentified when it came from Gailen David. To date I am aware of only 13 identified unground SS-Rhm's. Enjoy! Thanks Bernie. You compiled such incredible documentation for this dagger, but I would have expected nothing less. For me, to breath life into these objects is what collecting is all about. And I use "The Key" practically every day. Ross Kelbaugh www.ssdaggers.com

I give a giant thumbs up to both Bernie and Ross. You are both huge contributions to our hobby. I am glad you decided to come back here Bernie... Its too bad the other branches just aren't as researchable as the officers corp of the SS.. Have either of you had luck researching anything else?

Fabulous looking show with lots of interesting items. Thanks for posting all those photos! Maybe someday I can make the trip.
I only saw the Allach dog at Wittman's, and I think one other dog. Were any other exhibitors selling Allach/German porcelain?

There were one or two other pieces that I spotted, but was not looking for them so I probably missed some.

There was very little Allach at the show, no more than 6 pieces that I saw, and I was looking.
