Well the end of another trip to East Europe..Back in the saddle..

Some highlights:

Here is the end of summer Antique show in the city of Kiev. Back in 97 it was 90% military 10% antiques,,now its the other way round.. But you can still get lucky and a interesting show..
A large venue,,almost the size of a SOS/MAX. These shots from the outskirts of the show,,photos strictly forbidden.

A monument to the war dead of Kiev. The plaques under/around the tank have the names of the war dead. Covers every conflict from the revolution to present day. Monuments like this are in every city, town, all over the country

I also have an interest for religious articles. Since they have a new president there and everything is in the toilet the prices have become very reasonable again for items like this.
Very hard to get photos of even in a gift shop....

Also in Vinnitsa is Adolf Hitlers Eastern Headquarters 'WereWolf'. Massively bombed buy the soviets , nothing there now but some grass, trees, and signs of its former self. still plenty underground though!

I first saw the 'Hitler' pool in 97. Back then it still had pumps attached and beautiful black/brown Italian marble around the pool. Now nothing left but a hole with water and reeds growing..

Great post Gaspare, thanks for sharing.
Nice, clear pics, all good subjects.
So the ex Soviets are still a bit camera shy, are they ?

"Hitler pool" ,,, I'm getting a frightening image of AH in Speedo's, for sure would have been shot taking a pic of that !

Hello G, very interesting pics. Is it leagal to buy and own handguns there? Love the pics of the "scooters", is the first one a war production Harley? On the last one it's neat how the brake and clutch levers are backwards to keep the cables "inboard" so they don't snag stuff! Thanks for sharing! Regards, Leipzig

Evgeniy , your correct. The HQ was bombed heavy, not much left. Tank and other vehicles 'restored' with what they had which means Soviet parts..

The MCs look like the BMW R-61 and the R-12.. Also 'restorations' of what was found there /nearby.

Guns! They are supposed to have the barrels welded up,,supposed to!
I am sure if you wanted something that worked it could be arranged....

Photos aren't allowed anywhere in shows like this,,or even museums.
Weird because you can sometimes pay a dollar for photo privileges in certain museums but they give you like 1 sec. to take the shot,,and no seconds! ,you can only get hit with these sticks from the matrons so many times! cry crazy laugh

If anyone is wondering how the Thompson SMG pictured above got there this is the explanation. Every Lend lease tank we provided to the Russian's was equipped with two Thompsons. The problem was no 45acp ammo was sent rendering them virtually useless. Thousands of Thompsons were put into storage until the 90s and sold to militaria dealers after the end of the Cold War.
One of the principal dealers was a guy named Tony Rymond(SP?) who was located in Great Britian.
Tony(now deceased) had a breakers licence and would disassemble the Thompson's into parts kits (no receiver)so they could be imported for sale here. Tony told me at one time he had 1100 Thompson receivers stacked up in his basement. If those could somehow have been registered they would be worth at least $10,000 each.
I don't want to hijack Gaspare's thread but hopefully you'll find this little piece of history interesting.
Jim
