I've often wondered if 'the powers that be' during the Third Reich would have accepted any of the best fakes produced today, as worthy of being placed on one of their uniforms..

Good point Doug,,to add to your assessment.
#1 The RZM back then would scoff at these fakes at the blink of an eye if the did not meet up to their criteria.
#2 To jump forward in time 80 years as times change so might the RZM ((if Germany had won the war)). IMO it is most likely that the RZM would accept these fakes,, just as long as it still represented the ideals and doctrine to which it was created to instill fear and control.
#3 To see at "first sight" and "thought" anything that represents that time period,,, right away I would think of what it represented,, before I would search it out to be a fake.
The NSDAP had one goal in mind when they took the ancient swastika form and bent it to their political needs along with the SS cap skull. Scary stuff just to look at,,is still effective now as it was back then.
#4 there is an issue though with any government that if they dont get a piece of the action, no matter how junky it looks then that business would have a hard time existing.
A perfect example is when the use of metals and workmanship changed but yet was still under the RZM control. Times change and we see it with our own products of today,,what was made Oak and Steel is now made with Plastic and fiberglass,, and costs twice as much!! A real Chevy was made back during the 50s and 60s not like the crap that is made today,,but still the Chevy name.
Take 2 full jaw cap skulls from, one from 1936 and one from the 40s and you can see the difference in the metals, when the latter is picking off. IMO I see a coldness that still gives me the "shivers" in the later model because of that silvering lifting off.
I agree with you Doug and my thoughts are the same on the purity from the maker it comes from,,but no matter how it looks the NSDAP #1 goal was accomplished.
