Hi There, this is what I got recently and I notice there are at least 3 other Police daggers variations in literature.
Do you have any in your collections to share?

Here is mine.

Question

What is the grip material.

Here are two of mine. The first is a leather gripped model with detail on the back that is believe to have originated in India.

The second is an original with a 16th century blade and Sami grip.

Thanks Jim. Is the first "India" dagger with the same grip detail as mine? Why do you bet on this origin?

The grip material is black leather - all sits tightly together.

Hi Michal

This is a much debated subject. the leather grips on the police daggers.

Some people believe that there were no original Police daggers with the detail on the grip yours and mine have. The badge belongs there but not the fancy work.

Some people believe that WWII and prior dagers all had Sami grips.

There is one theory that the leather gripped daggers were made by contract and were used duing the post war period by the Japanese police.

there is another theory that all the leather gripped daggers were made in India and are reproductions and appeared only about 15 years ago.

So, take your pick.

My opinion is that yours is the next generation of reproductions.

But they look nice and go well with the collection.

There is a mid length up for sale by one of our members on Ebay. Buy it now for $350. If I collected Japanese, I would buy this.

The member is not me.
