Hi all,

When I looked at some awesome pics posted by LH here I noticed something familiar. Im not really sure were to put this, or IF to put this at all? Its a proud Dutch Lion. There also is an Order Of The Netherlands Lion but that doesnt have a lion for some reason.

Attached is my lion. Its silver, getting a bit dark, but still very pretty. Im hoping LH puts his lion here too, so we can see how both differ or resemble My lion is surrounded by the little ditties I found with it. The bracelet, is made of silver Dutch coins, from 1937 to 1942.

Enjoy,
Karin-Renate

Hi Karin,

Very lovely piece this one. Is this only a patriotic symbol or is it a kind of award?

I suggest you to put it in a jewelry case with the other objects like theses below. But I'm affraid there is no place for your apple in it.

Sincerely,

Ricardo

Its Dutch! For sure ... Is Norway having a lion as heraldic figure too? Like, Belgium has 1, probably other countries as well? Its the king of beings, so, why settle for less eh? But, your story is interesting!

I know, that, during the second world war, in Holland, people used coins as jewellery, like the armband, and the shamrock (the 3 coins together, is a shamrock). The coins had the queen on it, and wearing that stood for silent disrespect to the occupating Germans ofcourse. Also, sometimes lions and dutch heraldic weapons got cut or sawn out of coins, to make into brooches? Ofcourse our lions are not like that, but it could be a lead ... Also, lions from headwear + insignia were removed from uniforms and worn on clothes. Just like orange flowers got planted in gardens. Tulips and so on. Just to annoy Germans

The ring, ofcourse, has nothing to do with these things, maybe its just as old, or older. Im wearing that though, it goes lovely with black, its a gorgeous ring! But just there for display, and I found it with those things.

Thanx Ricardo! It must be patriotic, theres no text, or anything, it has a silvermark at the back, but, nothing more. Its very beautifully made.

Oh, I ate the apple already *LOL* Thats how viscous I am! It looked SO pretty + red! But, it served its purpose? Took a big bite without hesitating! Now, I should fall asleep for 1000 years, any second now, no?

Sincerely,
Karin-Renate

Hi LH,

For sure, we dont? And, you might have that idea, but, I think, that a dutch lion would be more fitting with SA Rost, Mussert's NSB or the WA. The SS thought Holland should be part of a greater Germanic Reich. The NSB, were actually rather patriotic, and thought Holland, should be part of a Germanic thing, but NOT as an absorbed or annexed country. More like a together WITH Germany, or NEXT TO Germany thing? In fact, some high ranked NSB people even felt that Holland should have a leader-role, 'cause to them, Holland was more Germanic in origin? So, SS, not patriotic, but Germanic, and the others WERE patriotic, with sympathies for nazi views.

Dutch SS did sometimes carry the Wolfsangel as insignia, the WA + NSB had this too, so, along THAT line, maybe SS did carry a lion? BUT, the Wolfsangel can be understandably linked to both, 'cause of what it stands for.

Please do share ANY thoughts

Sincerely,
Karin-Renate

Is very interesting how at the 30's the nationalist and anti-communist tought was disseminated in all the world. Here in Brazil we had the "Ação Integralista" (Integralist Action)that was inspired in the Italian Facist mouvement. Observe the black woman at the 2nd picture, it was a ultra-nationalist mouvement, but not racist.

Hi Karin,

A little explanation about the pins:

The stick pin have a sigma symbol over a brazilian map, it means the national integration under the integralist ideal.

The shield was used for integralists units from Rio de Janeiro area. It represents the sigma symbol over a southern cross constellation. The southern cross is a very predominant constellation at south hemisphere sky and like the Australians it is one of our national symbols too.

Our army used the southern cross as symbol too on it's vehicles at the Italian front with the U.S. 5th Army.
