Yeah, that is interesting for me too - why? Why they did go this way, because like I said there are few easier and better quality options. Anyway I will try to do this sometimes in long winter evenings.

For little movement here my first nice ring in 2013.
Again in the style of a party pin.
Ring is brass and silver plated. The red and black are enamel.
Here two not so good pics.

Because of the style I think it is an early ring.
Is the grey between the leaves grey-blackening or silver patina?

After a lot researching and reading i am sure that most of this rings/items are pre may 33.

But, yes, i think after may 33 most of this rings were such items therefoere the "Kitsch"-law (Gesetz zum Schutze der nationalen Symbole ....)was made.
Par example - remember how much of the real much Westwall rings show as swastika - only a hand full.
For using this symbols on a in Germany (1938 Austria too) you needed after may 33 a offical permission.
So there was only a realativly short time this items are produced and thats in my opinion the reason that they are rather rare.

Absolutely! and that's what we love to collect.. Anything that wasn't bring in money to the party was called 'Kitsch'!

A private purchase ring / and or a 'Canteen' ring...all are :
Mass produced rings for retail... Some guys like to collect custom one of a kind rings,,thats fine. But they are hard to authenticate and even date. Most of us here on thisforum collect mass produced made for retail sales rings!

Oh yes, I absolutely agree. Even while the Nazis were seizing power at the end of January 1933, a frenzy of all types of things imaginable was being mass produced by businesses big and small to make money. It was big business up until May 1933. The law and directives of 19 May 1933 put a big damper on it. But as we know they couldn't and didn't confiscate all of it. I remember an article which stated that a business had been warned not to sell Kitsch items anymore, and that the items weren't confiscated.

Odal and I have been looking into this exact thing,,,the laws concerning this stuff!
Seems like they were deadly serious right around 1933,,,but for some odd reason there wasn't any enforcement.. Probably because it would have been almost impossible to enforce.
I think by the time the war started they basically just gave up and let be.... BUT, there might have been years before / or shortly after 1933 that there was a under the table understanding that jewelers and retails might have 'donated' some cash to the party for the no enforcement of the laws. [?]

Kitsch is far more than what we collect so that's really not entirely true, it was enforced to an extent but you have to look at the bigger picture of what was going on as early as 1928 with the League for German Culture and then with the renamed National Socialist Culture Community in 1934, which is the time frame we are interested in. And they in turn were aligned with the official body for cultural surveillance, or the Dienstelle Rosenberg. Have you heard the phrase "when I hear the word culture, I reach for my gun"? This isn't the actual phrase used in the play, but the one most used by Nazi leaders.

I agree. In 1933 the laws and directives were new and from what I've learned enforcement was taken serious by propaganda officers and police, but maybe because it was new more warnings were given. It seems that the Brown House judges in Munich, had decided on fresh decisions and passed more then a few items as unobjectionable because of the quality. But there was still a very long list of items that didn't pass judgment. I believe they did attempt to stop it, but how in the world could they totally. They couldn't and I believe they must've understood this fact.

Maybe this Kitsch served another purpose for them, because it did continue and articles of the day questioned why it was allowed to continue. Illegal activity flourishes as long as a product sells and we can't rule out the possibility that the propaganda ministers pockets were lined. But then again he was a hard core true believer in his party and AH, so did he truly mean what he stated in his speech?

In a speech he stated; "That for the advancement and maintenance of a program, an art was necessary which would encompass not simply symbols and events but a basic structure of ideas. So artistic value was not to be determined by cheap, anecdotal directness". Why it was allowed to continue is another mystery.

After reading and researching a lot in my opnion the gouvernment in this time dit everything to stop these so called "Kitsch"-items. I am sure they forced through their law. There are examples enaugh for such manner.
In the case of this "Kitsch"-law they even gone a step further.
This law too became valid for pics, busts and other artworks that showed Hitler.
About this theme i found last weeks a very interesting and well researched book that uses and shows a lot of documented sources.

Your doing just fine. Kitsch is so much broader than must realize. Agreed, these were the directives. It also covered leading personalities, art, singing and songs, literature, etc. Police regulations can also take effect and enforced. I'm sure I have that book and probably more. Thanks.

I agree with that.. and reiterate, [just my theory],,that if it's not bringing in money to the party its Kitsch!

So we have the law, and the impossibility of enforcing it.. Maybe the Propaganda Minister thought that in writing the law itself that it would deter the retailers from stocking and maybe even the customers from wanting them..

Ok, if no one else has an opinion...Odal, thanks for the nice ring pics...so I see the evidence of the swas/ circle construction and at the very least this adds more handcrafting to the value of the ring IMO in piece construction...here's what I like or rather stands out to me...the marcasite stones are pretty cool...i don't know much abt the stone, so my curiosity is piqued because I wonder if that's the gems natural crystalline form? That IMO would be really cool Odal. Nice ring anyway
