VERY nice piece, short ones are nice to find but the stag puts into the stratosphere. Did you get this one from Wayne Techet?

Stingray:
That is very nice indeed... it looks in better condition than the one on Wayne's site. You sure don't see the short Pionieres very often at all.
Now, what you need is a bunch of Pack etches, if you do not already have them.
I would love to see pictures of the variations in your Packs as pictured above.

Beautiful! Great addition indeed. I also want to get a short pioneer piece to add to my collection, but I find it hard to find ones which I like and the condition is good enough for me to consider them. The price is also quite high on these, but I wholly understand why. Keep it up. JAN

Is the beak on the stag damaged or is it supposed to be like that?
If you want to criticise someone first walk a mile in their shoes. Then, when they come after you, you'll be a mile ahead and they'll be barefoot.

John,
That's what I thought when I saw this piece but it's not the stag from Wayne's site. Lightning strikes twice it seems.

The maker mark variation is what makes Wayne's desirable, even at that price.

The vast majority of Pioniere hilted Packs are riveted and do not use the standard Pack spanner bolts.
You can see, in Stingray's collection, that all of the beauty Pack Pionieres are riveted, except for the stag grip one.
So, are rivets the standard and spanner bolts used in this case only to mount the stag grips? There was some speculation at some point that Pack sent out their Pionieres to be hilted elsewhere which is why you see them with rivets.
I have 6 Pioniere hilted Pack etched bayos and they are all with rivets.
The stag Pioniere with spanner bolts is the first one that I recall seeing this way.
Anyone have an opinion on the rivet vs spanner bolt theory?

John,
The theory I've always heard was that Pack purchased variant hilts for some of it's Pioneer & Feuerwehr models from other manufacturers which was one potential explanation for the lack of spanner nuts on some Pack products. I have 5 Pack fire bayonets, all with different maker marks (of course). Only 1 of the 5 has spanner nuts, the other 4 have centered rivets. Some of those have very obviously non-Pack hilts, these are likely Horster IMHO.
That said, I have several distributor marked fire bayonets that are not Pack marked but clearly Pack produced with Pack hilts & offset rivets. I would say, based on own experiences with Pack Feuerwehr models that there are a number of variant grip/rivet/hilt configurations & any number of potential explanations but it's clear (at least to me) that Pack did indeed produce some Pioneer/Feuerwehr models on it's own while also procuring hilts from other manufacturers.

Stingray, thank you for your posts on the pioneer bayonets, They are always a favorite. I am posting three Packs and the center one has the spanner nut attachments for the grips. I bought this years ago from Brian Maederer and it was around $500.00 at that time but I had never seen one before or since then until your posts started. I can tell you the blade is rough but I have never been able to up grade it so I have no complaints. Sincerely, HUBERTUS

Stingray, see what you started with those good looking Pack pioneer bayonets that you posted on your May 9th post.
You are bringing alive some nice pieces. Here is the latest etched Pack pioneer that I have just posted yesterday. It also needs to be over on this file.
Sincerely, HUBERTUS

Ivan:
I saw that small logo Pack several years back at an SOS. It is great that it has found a home with the Pack Man himself.
Congratulations,
