Hey All, I'm new to the forum and dagger collecting, but what can someone tell me about this dagger? Its one I'm about to purchase from a fellow, apparently a vet bring back. Opinions as to what its worth would be a huge help! Thanks

It looks like a Herder but without photos of the maker mark I can't be sure. Without photos of the reverse of the blade it's hard to give an estimation of value but I'd guess $350 or so. The blade looks tired and the hanger looks fake.

I would agree with SDP on this one. I think the maker is F Herder as well due to the very dark grip. (If that grip is plastic the whole thing is fake) The SA button is very close to the top fitting and that concerns me. They are supposed to be slightly lower, showing some small amount of wood grip between the button and the upper grip fitting. Other than that, and it may be just the angle of the pictures, it looks pretty good for a nice entry piece. I think the pricing is right where he said as well. Nice one to start off with. I question the hanger as well. It is too thin and long to be originally with that dagger. Looks like a repro. But, heck...it's there. Just don't pay extra for it. Got a pic of the maker mark on the reverse of the blade? Good luck with it if you get it. You will be sucked into the vortex of SA collecting. Mark

The hanger looks to be 100% fake. The leather is too thin and shiney and the clips did NOT look like that.
I also think that the little SA rune button appears far too close to the top crossguard. I have seen variances, but never that close.
I would ask for more pictures.

In addition to the above... the eagle looks like it's off centre, (might be the photos) and the grip looks like one of those B&A dagger grips made out of bakelite. The blade looks as if it could have been buffed too.
I think you need more pictures before you go making any purchasing decisions.

I have to agree with SDP, the eagle is not at the widest part of the grip, it actually looks like the grip is wider toward the crossguard, just does not look right. That was the first thing I noticed, it could be a shadow in the pic. though.
