Hi,
I have an Eickhorn army dagger that I am looking to move, but it has a Holler crossguard. I am not a dagger guy so when I bought it i did not pay thatmuch attention to that aspect of it. My quetion is do I replace the Holler with a correct eickhorn crossguard or leave it as is when I sell it? Would changing the crossguard alter my asking price significantly since it would be a "complete" eickhorn? I'm just looking to move this as I don't collect daggers.

Sounds like a victim of the parts swapping that went on in the early days of the hobby. I would sell it as is or perhaps part it out. Could the dagger have come from Eickhorn with a holler crossguard? Maybe but doubt it not an acceptable combination at least to me.

That5 was my thought too but I don't know why Eickhorn being such a large firm, end up using another manufacture crossguard. My gues snow is that possibly the crossguard was de-naizfied and was replaced with what ever the GI or who ever replaced it. Everything else matchs on the dagger wearwise so i doubt it to be a true "parts dagger".

EICKHORN due to my experiences has had near contacts to at least WKC and HRSTER and these firms for sure did switch parts during the period. I have not seen a combination EICKHORN/HLLER up to now but who knows. In my opinion period switching of parts was much more common (especially during the later years) than we would expect. I personally would not blame all those parts-of-other-firms only to post war switching (which without any doubt also occurs). Just my thoughts.

I thought to remember having seen an equivalent recently.Currently Gailen David GDM-MILITARIA is offering an EICKHORN with what seems to me beeing a HLlER crossguard. Looks to be totally legit.

Greg Domian1 , I wouldnt change ANYTHING on your dagger!

I saw this Eickhorn piece too with Holler Xguard on Gailen's Site. This isn't the first time I have seen this combination. The piece that seems to be out of place here is the blade... the rest of the fittings look Holler.

Without mentioning anyone's name in association with this, it's a parts dagger. I'd be saying the same thing if the fittings were Pack or Horster or Alcoso.....and as Fitzer states, the blade is "out of place"... Smile
