I see more and more web-sies now saying POR, Price on request for daggers. And I am not talking about damast, honor, Himmler or Rhm's either, but "normal" '33's and chained daggers... Are the sellers afraid of putting the price in public? I am just wondering...

Hi When I first joined GDC I couldn't understand that the prices in the "Sales section" weren't negotiable. One should write A price. Now I think people out there are starting to learn the values of negotiation of prices. It's MUCH more fun Regards Jesper

Just my 2 cents, but sometimes I think that POR is what a dealer posts when they don't really know what to ask for. Sometimes I think that they determine the asking price by the number of phone calls that they recieve.

Some dealers ask for really immoral prices so the put them on POR. This way not too much collectors get to know theyve gone grazy.....

I have never like the POR method of pricing and won't use it myself. I feel that SOME dealers use this so that whoever makes the request can be evaluated as to how they pay and the price can be changed UPWARD depending on who is interested and what the market will bare for THAT collector. Have to agree with Ron on that one.If your a high end buyer the dealers know it and qualify's the buyer with his price, weather it be higher or lower. They also know if your a buyer or shopper.

I think some sellers think "POR" adds a bit of "snob" appeal to an item. It leaves me cold and I won't even inquire about an item so designated. All of the above comments have valid points. "POR" signals you'd better have big bucks before calling or don't waste my time. When a potential buyer does call, what usually takes place is negotiating a price, or the buyer purchases at "asking" price, whatever that might be. The same results are usually the outcome with a listed price, so why not list it in the first place?

I always thought dealers used POR so that when they were buying high end daggers, the owner wouldn't say, "well, on your site you were asking $$$$ for the same dagger," thus raising the price the dealer had to pay.

I agree - "POR" is ALWAYS something I completely pass over . . . Brad P.S. Even if the Seller feels his or her asking price is "Top Dollar" (and maybe even worthy of such), I believe the asking-price SHOULD be revealed in an advertisement and followed by a simple statement of "Price is subject to reasonable negotiation" . . . this approach offers all interested parties a visible starting point to work from, and at least let's me know if I'm going to start out barking up the wrong tree to begin with!
