Hunting Knife

Just got this knife and would like to know more about it. It looks like a hunting knife and has a very long blade over 16 inches.
1. Where they used for ceremony rather than practical use?
2. Who made them?
3. Who wore them on what occasion?
4. What period is this?
Sorry for all these questions since this is the first one I got and have no idea about anything related to this type of knife. Thank you in advance for all and any input you could give me! JME

Hi JME

You ask some good questions, I'll try as much as I can to answer them,

Your piece in my opinion is for Schtzen, a piece carried by the shooting fraternity, I base this on the blade pattern, the length of the blade and the very simple scabbard mounts, I'm sure others will chime in here with other suggestions.
It's of the Imperial era circa 1900.
Ceremonial use only rather than a weapon, dress occasions.
As to who made them, it could be one of many manufacturers, Eickhorn, WK&C, Alcoso etc, any one of the big boys of the time.

It looks a nice piece in good condition, most of these are usually all worn out. A nice addition to your collection.

Cheers

Bill and Gary(BAZ69)

Thank you Bill and Garry for your feedback, which is much, appreciated! I sure thought it was for a Jger and not for an Schtzen and I am surprised that it is that old. Well as always I learned something again. Overall the knife is in very nice condition and like you pointed out a nice addition to my collection. Thank you so very much for your information! JME
