This pair of 45-degree "DIRECTORS" came in on the evening tide today. They look pretty good in the waning light tho one eyepiece is frozen.

I hear "Deutsche Optik" here in the 'States can clean these things. Anyone have experience with them? Also, it seems these binocs are worth maybe $1000-$1200 (right?) so if he wants, say, $200 is that a good deal?

Also, I'm assuming since they're Weimar-early IIId Riech that this accounts for there being no eagle or other military marks 'cept for the top plate describing the system it's for. Sound right?

Thanks a lot and good hunting!

thanks -

there is no eagle/m 'coz it's 1936 and probably too early as my original post said.
do you agree?

also the "$200" I referred to was in a question about if that was a fair price to pay for cleaning lenses and adjusting things... optics arae clear but I;n not seeing much change as I turn eyepieces and top knob. but then I'm myopic

by the way the "frozen" eyepiece came unstuck.

cheers,

david

nickn2 -

thanks - yeah the "1936" was actually wasn't it's a different 4-digit string.

I can't find an eagle/M pr swaz or waffenamt marking anywhere including the quiksight mount; nothing seems to have been messed with.
and the paint all looks wartime Wehrmacht gray-green...

any ideas as to worth?

thanks!

$800
dealers will ask more but rarely get it
its a kreigsmarine binocular hence the coated lenses army and airforce binos do not have coatings far to expensive for land use

cheers -

interestingly, one on yeeBay recently got bid up to $1600 before time ran out and the reserve wasn't met... but yeh seems your estimate is the one that gets tossed round; $1000 being about the usual "top."

I still wonder why no military marks (well there's a painted "53" on the quick sight and body). wd. jave been a major job for someone to stripe all the factory paint after the war, find and remove offending stigmata then repaint with the correct red primers etc.

thanks again.

the one on ebay was a rarer model even though at a glance it looks identical to yours
the eagle is always on the quick sight mounting block on this model that is why they are usually missing due to being de-nazified after the war perhaps yours just missed the eagle engraving stage

if you look at ebay # 110214986716
you can see were the eagle is normally endraved if it is not on the side but this is an earlier model then yours with rarer shaped hoods and it did have the eagle hence the price
