This may be a stupid question - so apologies if it annoys anyone. But were the deceased's dagger or sword buried with them? i know Eicke was burried with his, but that may have been more to keep it out of Russian hands.

Reutte is in the Tirol, that is to say, the portion of nowadays Austria that abuts Switzerland. Hence, this funeral was after March 1938, and granted to appearance of things, well after, same date. You could likely write to someone in the Heimatmuseum there and ask them, or write to other Austrian locales interested in local history in the III. Reich. As to daggers, this man, if he was the Kreisleiter or some other figure, did not have a daggger.

My guess would be that this is a wartime funeral for a regionally high ranking NSDAP leader--possibly someone who was serving in the military at the time. You can see that the NSDAP leaders are wearing the 1939 and later style insignia.

Hard to see what the Visor cap on the casket is, but that may lend us a clue.

Certainly a Parteigenosse (Pg) - I wonder if the wreath banners have any more clues if enlarged?

Cheers,

Stephan,
I couldn't get anything lear on the wreaths, just a coupple spots were you can make out NSDAP, I did get a somewhat decent scan of the side view of the cap on the casket.

Mike,
Not sure how much it would be worth. Here is a closeup of it in wear, notice that it looks like thin material, you can see thru it.
