This is the only cadet pattern sword I have ever seen with VMI on the cross guard. I have seen blank cadet pattern swords as well as cadet swords with a generic MA for military academy in the cross guard oval. This is the pattern cadet sword used approx between 1870-1920. West Point and other Military academies used this pattern sword. The makers mark "The M.C. Lilley and Co" dates this sword somewhere between 1880's and 1920 I believe. Lots of patina!
