Hi Bob, the rest of this dagger is the same as any other SA. That's the only light grip SA I have. My F. Herder SA's are almost black gripped...a very deep dark chocolate brown. I will post one next to this one and you can see the ends of the spectrum in grip colors. I don't know if they came this way (the Kober) or were enhanced later to make them lighter. It's an unresolved question. It's a nice looker though and a departure from the standard regulation brown. I'm off to the Nashville boat show today with the grandkids. They are yelling "Papa...come on!" Gotta go... Best.... Mark

Merk... I'm keen to see your darkest handled SA. What colour is the scabbard? Could it be passed as a marine SA?

Blonde Kober. In my opinion, they were not enhanced later. They were not stained dark to begin with but were finished with a reddish varnish or shellac. When the finish wears off or is removed intenionally a very light grip is exposed. Another possibility is that the finish was originally clear and darkened to a reddish color with age.

Skyline... that's an interesting lower crossguard to grip fitting on the middle piece, have you got many like that?

What you are seeing is a combination of the grip ever so slightly elevated over the crossguard and grunge on the crossguard. I like the grunge.

Hello sdp,no the blade is the way it was when I received it,you can imagine my surprise when I pulled a blade like that out of a real grubby nicotined scabbard.I always leave the daggers as I find them ,unless there is rust setting in. Regards nats

Nice SA seany, I like that one.
I'm throwing around the idea that if a dagger like this had a black scabbard, whether it could be passed as a marine SA?
