These two daggers were purchased years apart and I was surprised to see the second one available last month. It has the inscription reading..F. Miessner’scher Ehrenpreis. Meisterschaftsschiessen Berlin 1896 Deutscher Flagd und Schiess Club. They both have an etched skinning knife that goes to the blade and the lower scabbard fittings have deep stamped type etchings. The clam shells and the rest of the fitting are close to the same. If someone can help decipher the German inscription it will be appreciated. Sincerely, HUBERTUS

Ralph,
Here is my attempt, but someone else that is more fluent in old German should correct me.
"(Winner name or club name) championship ski competition Berlin 1896. German hunt and ski club."
Funny that the prize blade is plain and the skinner knife is etched. I believe etched skinners are kind of rare. Interesting items.

Beautiful pair Ralph, I saw your latest one on Ebay, almost bought it myself but had other things in the fire at the time, classic WK&C skinner which obviously went with it, can we have a close up of the lower mounts and clamshell, is the lower mount the type with the stags head with the cross of St Hubertus inside??. What about a close up of the etching of the lower piece as well.
Cheers
Gary

The correct writing is: J.Mie..ner´scher (cannot read these two letters for sure, due to the quality of the pic, I think it is either ss or sz) Ehrenpreis. / Meisterschaftsschiessen Berlin 1896. / Deutscher Jadg und Schiess-Club. Transl: Honor price of (in the sense of "donated by") J.Mie..ner. /Champion´s shooting competition (at) Berlin 1896. German hunting and shooting club.
It has to be specially remarked that the person J.M.. did NOT gain this honor price knife but has been the donator of this honor price.
Although I am strictly collecting edged weapons of the 33-45 time frame I always appreciate seeing such nice edged weapons shown here.

Thank you for the input on this post to Hanson, Gary and Wotan. Gary I also have another W.K&c Blade that I hve included to go with your request for more pictures. It has a Damaskus blade and one one side has come kind of crest and the reverse side it says..STOCKS EISENHAUER-DAMASTSTHL. On the edge of the blade it has..F.W.STOCK-MESSER & WAFFENSCHMIED EISENACH. 1 OF 7 PHOTOGRAPHS.
