Sub-badge reduced to $500.00 with same terms. Pictures are taken with 8-pixel digital camera and micro setting. The one badge I found at a low-end dealer without a Maker Mark was $700.00! Priced to sell! JME

A member showed what he believed to be a good maker stamp on a piece in the Imp.Forum..
Who says that one isn't the bad one though?!

I'd say whoever emails should really get in on the discussions when they are calling a piece reproduction. OR, at least email a credible statement as to why they think it's bad,,,and "on the other forum they say its no good" doesn't cut it Roll Eyes.....Lets learn something,,,wheres the beef!

Gaspare,

If the guys are not premium members, then they cannot post here. I agree with the principle that if folks have a complaint, they should voice it. You can always start a new thread.

I'm moving this one to Medals & Badges so the guys can say Why they don't like it.

Funny. We have commented. This is typical GDC though- attack someone who calls an item for sale fake. I went thru the same crap here with Davey and his junk he was off loading. Publicly ridiculed but receiving numerous PMs thanking me. No wonder you can hear the crickets here. I'm done. There are too many decent forums to hang out in. Dave, cancel my membership please.

Hello,

I am one of the informants. I have tried to do a little montage to demonstrate my point. What I believe to be the fake badge is on top, the real one is at the bottom. The give away is the T in Schott. Notice how the bar on the T is longer in the real one.

Here is a thread from the German Military Interest Club Forum on the WW1 U-Boat badge by Walter Schott. Unfortunately, you have to be a member of the forum to view the pictures. Please notice the comments by Gordon Williamson. He is the author of "Torpedo Los", a book on U-Boat collectibles.

dond, if it were your piece wouldn't you want some explanations to why its bad?! Is 2 emails to a moderator saying its bad mean its bad?
I'm all for the 'informants' too ,,but If its bad SAY why its bad..

Stephane,,I am not familiar with this maker, and do occasionally run into pieces that could be a good find IF I knew what I'm looking at so please no offense,, but who says the the bottom mark is the good one? Is there more to this? Does this maker have this exact stamp on other known pieces? Does it just pertain to this specific badge?..thanks , G.

Gaspare, I did a lot of research before buying my example, according to what I have learned, this maker has the same exact trademark on all its pieces.

Here's another thread from Wehrmacht Awards. They are many threads on this badge on both WAF and GMIC. Again, you have to be a member to be able to view the pictures.

Stephane

I am not familiar with these badges or this maker but given the evidence you've presented I feel you have presented a strong case that the badge posted by JME is a reproduction.

To dond...the purpose of this thread was not to out anyone or point fingers or cast an "informant label" on anyone...it was purely to educate and to solicit educated opinions on the authenticity of this particular badge. Your choice to leave the forum I believe is done in haste. Your contribution and bringing this item to the forefront was invaluable. Members should not be afraid or chastised for presenting sometimes unfavourable opinions on items posted/for sale on this forum. Please reconsider your hasty departure.

Again Stephane, thank you for your research.

Sorry for coming in on this alittle late, have family problems here, I see we have one good based opinion with backup, Thanks Stephan, lets see some others, I'm not siding with anyone hear but like things have been said before let's talk about Why it's bad and not just the same ol thing it's bad and junk with no basis. I do not want to sound as if I'm conceiding here but lets see the facts on items of questionability so we all get something out of it including the potential buyer and seller. Thanks for keeping this for this civil guys!

I have done allot of research on these badges also and aggree for one thing the the T is diagnostic and is the only trade make used by this maker who was very a prolific maker of the U-boat badge. You will find several for sale on this sight e-medals who are trusted vendors look under German empire
http://www.emedals.ca/catalog_index.asp

PS DOND I went through the same thing with DAVEY and his junk he was popular because of his pictures etc but he still sold fake junk and got outed , he is where he belongs on another forum and folks here are a bit safer , it's how you do it but sometimes you are never right thats when you gotta let it slip off the deep end and just look at who is the critic and shake your head sleep on it .

I would like to hear from JME about this. So far, the input from the members and the great work by Stephane would suggest that you should give us your thoughts.

Dear All:
I had purchased this badge in good faith and was told at the time this was a good badge. I believed it but did not go ahead and did extensive research on it. Should I have done more research to make sure this was a good badge? Yes, I should have done more research but I did not do that. I have been watching this tread and did not want to interfere with this at this time until everybody had a chance to comment. I have informed the buyer by phone and e-mail that this badge is bad and the item did not sell. I will try to do a better job in my research next time so that this does not happen again. I think we have all learned something from this especially I did! One last thing for “dond” you should reconsider leaving this forum since I believe you did the right thing. JME

JME, you have acted with integrity, sorry about the badge, I must concur, collector consensus deems it a reproduction. Hope you can obtain a refund.

Don, was correct to ask for a review. In fact He beat me to it. My plate being a little full and not paying much attention to Imperial badges I did take note and had intent to return to it.

Stephane, Paul, thanks to you both for the indepth and the links.

This is sure to help more than those it has already aided.
