Hi All, I hope everyone had a great Christmas. A friend of mine has her Grandfather's WWI German medal bar. Could you help me ID these medals and what they would have been awarded for? Thanks in advance for your help.
Thanks, Blademan

Interesting bar. Post 1933 mounting for an NCO that became an officer during the First World War. A Bavarian by the MVOs. The EK2, Hindenburg Cross for combatants, Bavarian MVO4 (EK2 equiv for officers Bavaria), MVO/K 3? (EK2 equiv for senior NCOs I believe??), Oldenburg FA cross 2d class for combatants (EK2 equiv from Oldenburg), and the Austrian and Hungarian commemoratives? The guy saw alot of action and came up thru the ranks probably to senior leutenant or capt.
Or maybe I'm way off.....

Dond, Thanks for the great info and your reply.
Derjager, Thanks for your reply and there is no label on the back of this bar.
Interesting note is that this guy was Jewesh and fled Germany for the US before the war. Not a nice way for a country to treat your war heros!
Thanks, Blademan

Dond, This is all I have. The family was hoping I could shed some light on his history with the medal group.
Thanks, Blademan

This bar is weird. I agree, if it's period-done this is for some-sort of Bavarian NCO who made rank quickly during WWI. I doubt this person ever went higher than Leutnant d. R.
It's not for a Feldwebelleutnant. Why? No Bavarian long-service decorations, not even a 9 year EM award! This bar IS NOT for a career type. The lack of any sort of enlisted long service award and plus the highly suspect mounting of the Honor Cross before his decorations for valor "bug" me.
The Bavarian Military Merit Cross 3Kl. (I think that's what it's called) the enlisted MVO anyway has a crown, which, if I remember correctly indicates a pre-1914 award. If this is true this bar should have an enlisted long servie decoration on it.

Wilson, Thanks for your input. I do know the bar has been the family's ownership since they escaped Germany in 1938.
Thanks, Blademan

The people over at wehrmacht-awards.com would be able to give better insight. I do know for a fact that this bar is not mounted correctly.
