I always thought these were interesting. Thanks for the posting. Rather ergonomic.
Cheers, Pauli

Geoff

Tony Carter in his definitive book on Ersatz Bayonets states that these and other combination trench knive/bayonets "were purchased by the War Ministries, marked with acceptance stamps and officially issued in small numbers to the officers and men of assault troops. Contemporary photographs also show them being worn as sidearms by some machine gunners armed with P 08 Parabellums".

The book also cites examples with unit
markings which must indicate official issue.

Hope this helps a little.

Regards

Richie

this is a common, called "DEMAG Grabendolch" (DEMAG = Deutsche Maschinenbau AG Düsseldorf),trench-kife bayonet.

not realy rare in this condition. large numbers were issued by the german army in the WW1 or were buyed privatly.

it is a combination with a trench knife and a all steel ersatzbeyonet.
Only to fitt the G98 rifle or carabin.

it was bild in 3 versions...

and, at the shown example the leather part at the blade is missing.
