Not sure what * M. SCH. No 33918 * refers to. Mine has DRGM 33918, H. Wernstein maker. As far as I have seen all DRA makers use the 33918.

Joe, since different makers used the same number on the DRA and DRL I guess the number is the Patent number. When you get a chance please post a couple of photos of it.

Gents,
I thought I would resurect this DRA Badge thread. I have two DRA badges that were both made by Wernstein that utilize both of these DRGM numbers. Can it be that the DRGM protection ran out and was then re-issued under another number. Opinions?
The first is a bronze badge that seems to have the remains of a light silver wash on it. This has the "DRGM 35269" number on the back. Might the different numbers have indicated the grade of the badge?

The other Bronze DRA Wernstein made badge shows considerable use and has a period pin replacement as well as having an engraved number on the reverse identifying the individual recipient. This example has the "DRGM 33918" protection marking. This particular badge is not as highly vaulted as the one shown above.
Ideas? Opinions? Thoughts?

Joe,
To confuse things even further, here is a bronze DRL badge by Wernstein marked with the "DRGM 35269" identifier on the back. This seems to be the number that is generally associated with the DRL badges and not the DRA Sports Badge.
It appears that prhaps the manufacturers were a bit loose with these numbers or at least Wernstein was?

Could be for a period of time there was some confusion for the manufacturers / workers as to what to apply to the reverse of the badge? At least Wernstein as you state.

A quick thought, maybe a design change of some type? Side by side comparison could reveal something?

I don't know the answer either Joe... more questions than answers it seems. I don't know why they would continue to make the DRA badge after it was replaced with the DRL but perhaps they did with a new DRGM number?
Mikee, clearly Wernstein did use a new back die on the two badges but it is hard to tell about the front one. Notice too that the back die on the DRL badge is also different from the other two DRA badges. The pin block and catch are the same but of course the pin has been replaced on one DRA badge. The vaulting is quite different but some flattening of the DRA badge with the replaced broken pin may be due to damage rather than a die strike. What seems clear is that Wernstein used both numbers on the DRA badge deliberately for some reason.
