Gentlemen,
It's been a while since we had a look at an imperial shooting medal and I wanted to share this little trio with you. It took me quite some time to find these three examples, each decorated with it's own heart motif.
The first example on the left is marked, "1. Gau Meisterschaft Gau 17 - 1930." Gau 17 is better known as the state of Mecklenburg. The center silver example is the imperial
instance, having a clover-leaf type of piercing through each of the cross arms. The shield that's at the top is hand engraved, "III. Meisterschaft von Thüringen Coburg 1914-19."
The reverse is stamped with the silver content and hallmarks. Like the first, the third decoration is also from the Weimar era and is simply marked "S.-König 1931/32." The gilding on the Weimar pieces is really amazing, they must've had primo spots in someone's sock drawer for a long, long time, as the enamel/glass-work is also in great shape.

I really enjoy seeing your shooting medals!
Do you know who the maker is from the hallmarks and where in the heck do you find them? I'm going to try and add some to my collection. Very nice and thanks for showing them to us.

Fellas, I'm glad that you enjoyed them and I'll post some more from time to time. Joe,yes, Valentines Day would have been very apropos, ha. Mikee, Don Falk got me started on these many years ago with a blue and yellow beauty that was presented in 1925. At the time it was about the same price as a nice EKI and I thought the price was pretty high, though, I'm sure glad I bought it and glad I stayed with them as I've tucked a few nice ones away since then. It also helps to have a few pals like Baz, Billy G., and Lance keeping an eye open for me too, as they've been most helpful giving me a "heads-up" whenever possible. Thanks boys! Just got a couple real nice ones that should be here fairly soon. Dang, one just got here as we speak ... I wish I would have known you were looking for some as I recently sold about fifty very good examples to a collector that I met at this years MAX. Let me go snap a couple photos of this latest one... Gents,
This little gem is a bit out of the ordinary as it doesn't have a suspension ring as the majority of shooting medals will reflect. This is the first pinback that I've seen and had in my collection and is a rarity in my opinion.
This one is nicely marked, "L. Chr. Lauer
Nurnberg Berlin," then engraved, Schützenkönig,,
Noris 1930, and then 935 for the silver content.
I'll try to add some more imperial examples later.

Wow. Those are pretty darn neat!
Is the gold badge, the one on our left, hung from a gold colored oak leaf cluster? Can't really tell what it is from the photo. But it does look nice.

SF, Yes, you're correct, a cluster of gilded oakleaves. Sometimes trying to get a good photo of all these types of metallic colors and finishes can be a challenge. You eliminate one 'hot-spot' and create two more ...  Glad you like them, though, there are lots of fabulous pre-'45 civilian and paramilitary awards and decorations to collect out there. Many of them made by the same companies that produced some of the top military awards and they can be every bit as well made as the military stuff, in my opinion. Really great looking awards. How did the Germans manage to create the collest looking awards? It never ceases to amaze me...I do have to give props to Carl Faberge and Ekart/Jeremia Pauzie as well (our Russian friends)
