Great find~! But as was repeatedly mentioned, don't clean! and I wouldn't "treat it" with anything, it lasted 60+ years as is. The paint itself is a protectant. Also any wax or oil can change the colors, or worse make it shine. If you are worried about it rusting, send it up to me. The winters here are cold & dry. The only thing that rusts is our cars...

Thanks, Tom and Jerry he he he, That is all that I needed to know, I was worried about a protectant, that will be it, no more wanting to strip, clean, add to, modify, treat, or paint it. I will leave it be!

I would just like to say thanks again to all of you folks that helped me out with this helm. I know that I was probably getting on some of your nerves, with all of my questions and ideas about altering the thing. Thank you for all of the info I really appreciate it! And Jerry, i'm not that worried! , but thanks for the offer!

Thats a great helmet $5 has to be an all time record low for a German camo helmet. I will just reiterate dont clean it ,varnish it ,add a new liner, touch the liner rivetts or wash it .Swap it for a dagger ,and well done its nice to see some people havent found ebay yet .Rob
