I am trying to identify which model sword this is. It is more ornate in the guard than those from the civil war.
So, help please.
Also, I am considering buying this for my collection so a value would be nice.

The blade is double etched with US on one side and E Pluribus on the other. The rest of the etch is your normal foliage and flags, cannons.
It is marked P.D.L. in a single oval circle.

Come on guys, someone has to have at least an opinion on what this is.
I am told pdl in a circle was also an inspectors mark of Civil War Swords.
Can anyone verify this?

Checked in Warmans Civil War Collectibles by John Graf you have a Model 1850 Officer Field and Staff sword they were made by PD Luneschloss as previously suggested.Book is dated 2003 and prices quote range from $1500 for good example up to $10000 or so for known generals swords with documentation hope that helps Cheers Tony

Found a description of another one which confirms PDL in oval is P D Luneschloss does your scabbard have brass throat, ring mounts, and drag looks like it does but photo not clear?

The scabbard mouth (and scabbard) appear to be steal. There are two rings, I am not sure about the drag.
But I surely thank you for the information. That explains the ornate hand guard.
Unfortunately it also puts it out of my range.
I always appreciate the feedback.
