I believe this to be for a uniform. Cap or cross belt. I have not seen it in pictures nor am I sure what period it is from.
Any thoughts?

It is a shiny silver domed oval, the scanner lights make it appear odd.

Joe,never seen this before. My first thought was also Mining hat badge. i couldn't find anything but while looking I did notice that the crossed hammer and pick have been found on NS-Hago (handicraft) type tinnies.
