Hello all,
I was hoping if someone has an opinion on what I should do to care for my SA Dagger. It is in what I would describe as "good" condition, but there is some very light brown brown discoloration starting on the blade, and a little black developing too.
Should I be applying any oil and if so what sort?
Can this blade be polished to achieve the fine finishes that I see in most of the other pictures here?
and as a bonus question, can anyone tell me if the Eugen Haering makers mark is particularly rare or common? I have looked around many sites but haven't come across anything for sale with that particular mark, but it does appear on the Maker's Mark section here.
Thanks in advance to everyone from a novice to this hobby.
Jeff

I don't think it is among the rarest makers, although definately uncommon. I would suggest that you post this thread under the restoration/ maint. forum, you may get better info as to how to restore on that page. Was this daggers sharpened? Good luck!

Hi Jzuzu, Your blade has definately seen some sharpening. For general care on a blade that I have gotten to the point I want to keep it at. I use a spray lubricant called "Micro Mist" It displaces moisture and prevents most of the oxidation that causes problems, just spray it lightly and wipe it down. Louie,

Oh, by the way, You can put a high polish on the blade if you want to, but be very careful. In the case of your blade, it has seen some pretty extensive damage already. I noticed you had already seen my posts about the Rohm Blade I refinished, if you contact me direct I can give you some tips. Look at my profile for my e-mail. 3-Finger Louie
