Hiya, Ive not posted for awhile, but recently a freind of mine in Florida emailed me some pics of a rifle that was gifted to him by his father. The rifle itself was picked up in an orchard in Hungary, left by a retreating German soldier in the closing months of the war. My question is, were these rifles mass produced? has anyone seen an example like this before?

very interesting rifle, ,looks to be a converted military rifle to target rifle configuration,,it possibly could have been used to "snipe" but my idea of a sniper rifle would be of one that had a scope mounted to it to aid in long distance targeting,,,

Converted from an Argentinian rifle. I agree it looks like a target shooting rifle, but if it uses the ammo that the German Army used in it's Mausers, then it may have been pressed into (?) action.

I'm fairly sure it's a target rifle. I can't see in the photos where the rifle was ever drilled and tapped. Any dedicated sniper rifle would have had a scope attached. It's built on an 1891 Argentine action, not the K98 I'd expect.
