Wotan,

Yes, that's the stuff! Smile

That's a great sculpture you have there, I like how nice the guy looks mounted on the stone. I've had one or two older pieces that were fastened this way, too. Mostly milk-quartz?
But, whoever the guy was who originally came up with the idea was thinking outside the box... heh. Big Grin

For those who may not know this particular scene so well, you can find the exact motif repeated in many old German hunting illustrations, wood-carvings and paintings, both Austrian and German alike. It's a pretty famous image, though, this is the first time I've seen this particular rendering. Items like this make for a super balance to a nice room full of Hirschfnger, like the pair you just posted on the other thread. Klasse! Wink - very nice.

Wotan,

Oh boy! Heavily silvered, that's nice! I would love to find something like that. Is it marked anywhere? Thats exactly how the weapon was carried. Speaking of his hunting weapon I think I have a close up picture of it in the flesh. All I need now is the statue! Big Grin
Thanks for showing it, what a treat, drool, drool!

Mikee,

Are the designs on two different weapons? Do any East Coast museums boast a large collection of Schtzen rifles? It would be nice to study a whole room-full of handcut designs like that for an hour or two ... beautiful work.

I wonder what a first class engraver would charge for something like that today? Could anyone venture a guess at what either of these patterns would set somebody back these days?

Mikee, you must have a great house full of neat stuff! Wink

Bill,
Thank you. I'm gratefully reminded of those that are less fortunate and how lucky I am to have a place I can truly call home, from family which is most important but also from this plaque. I hope that you and everyones dreams and wishes come true this Christmas, especially for those men and women serving. Merry Christmas everyone and a blessed New Year!

Bill, Sorry, in my rush I forgot to answer your questions. This hand work is all done on one weapon and I know of no museums with large collections but I have seen quite a few and find it rare to find them with carvings and engravings, most are plain but all are very unique. The artistic shape of the stocks alone on most of these is enough to make me drool. If done by hand today I would think the cost considerable. By machine Im not certain.

James, Thank you I wish it was. The nicely constructed powder horn is an Ehrengabe presentation piece from a Bundesschiessen in 1863. Glad you liked it all and Merry Christmas to you as well!

I also forgot to translate my plaque for you all. Not exact but close.
The Plaque reads:
"A Man"
Needs a place and even so small,
From that, he can say; See here, this is mine,
Here I love, here I live, here I rest;
Here is my homeland, here Im at home.
