Hello all,

I have an aluminum mounted 1st LW that has a scrape on one of its mounts. The damage is minor and could easily be filed then sanded smooth, leaving little or no trace of the work. The problem is that it would leave that area shiney.

How did the germans give aluminum that 'frosty' or matte finish? I've tried glass beading a scrap of aluminum but it didn't look right. Maybe finer beads would help? Any ideas how to duplicate that look?

I know nothing about daggers but this is interesting as I've glass beaded a AL. part once to get a frosted look.. It could actually be a type of plating though..

I like your glass bead method,,try a fine and see, then try the other way,a co****r grade cutting media and see,,maybe a rub and buff after that!
Interesting project,,If you get it please show a photo..Hopefully a dagger guy will come in with some help..Good luck!
