Forgive the lack of knowledge regarding edged weapon terminology. Tonight a knife acquired in WWII has come into my possession. The owner, a WWII veteran serving in the Royal Navy, says he 'took' the knife off a member of the Hitler Youth.
I'm afraid I have no photo to show as yet, although I have done a bit of research of my own and am pretty sure it's not a Hitler Youth knife. Having said that, I don't doubt the veracity of the man's story for one minute. He actually gave the knife to a relation as he is emigrating to Spain- it came with his own 1917 Remington WWI bayonet and scabbard.
The knife looks plain. It's all black, including the scabbard. The hilt appears to be either metal or bakelite, as does the scabbard. It is app. 12 inches long with a socket ring? on the hilt. The blade is about 8 inches long.
With my limited knowledge I'd call it a bayonet- but as you've probably gathered, I'm no expert. Any ideas as to its identity would be greatly appreciated.

I missed out the following which may be of help:
The letter 'R' is stamped on one side of the handle and 'C' on the other. Also along the hilt is an alphanumeric sequence-
L 1 A 4 9600259 S M
Thanks.

JIgman does the Navy veteran have a bad memory or is a chronic bullchiter?

John

Isn't this normal for Vets?, it would seem to be from EBAY comments, they are always American Civil war, SS or hitler youth, and half the army seemed to go through the bunker in Berlin or th ehouse in the hills, and all the SS were generals, who carried blades from all around the world
