JR,
I think you should be proud of yourself for assisting the retrieval of the items as well as stiffing the thief from his ill-gotten gains. I sincerely hope FedEx & local law enforcement follow up on the theft & prosecute as it sounds like there's sufficient evidence for some sort of action.
I feel were it not for the good deeds of you & some others as well as a lot of luck, the items would have been sold off never to be seen again. Not that you're looking for anything, but an emailed "thank you" seems a bit impersonal.

There's a lot more Seiler but it's a "sour" taste on one side and a refreshing one on the other. The good news is today Accumulator has notified me that the Kinko's alleged thief has been arrested by the police and in currently being held in custody. I know some more details regarding how the theft occured but I would hate to say it right now and compromise the case against the "Kinko Kid". Yes, None of this would have happened if it wasn't for the honest and Hard work of Christine and JR. They did the "Right Thing". To get 13K of rare SS edged weapons returned to you by strangers in todays world is a testament on these two wonderful people. -wagner-

Congradulations on a job well done. Just a reminder to everyone to be on the lookout for any of Paul Zayas stolen items when you attend shows. Jim

What's leaving a sour taste in my mouth is that the gent who lost the items, and now has them again, has done very little for the woman who did the christian thing and helped out..i know we should never expect anything for our good deeds..but really..am i missing something here?
I know it's a great gesture, but why should JR and Wagner have to do what should have been done as a matter of course by the man who had these valueable items stolen?

I second the nomination for JR to receive the GDC Community Service award. JR has always been a valuable resource for collectors and for GDC.

All the black stuff eventually finds its way home to JR, he is like a homing beacon. A good outcome for all in the end but an awkward predicament for Christine to be put in....but hey, I bet that thank you e-mail made all the difference!!!. As for FEDEX coughing up for "pain & suffering", they will probably send it via the FEDEX shipping centre in Charlotte .

A great story, but I would like to know the whole story and the small details before I would be tossing flowers. I remember that no good turn goes unpunished in almost all cases. JR is the hero in this case regardless of what happens in NC in my opinion. I feel that most of this rare stuff is tracted eventually and he avoided further loss for everyone along the way by his unselfish actions. Ron Weinand Weinand Militaria

Hats off to JR for being in the center of things and taking the time to orchestrate the contacts & the plans, in order to " catch a thief "
Both JR & Wagner are to be commended for their sincerity as well, by means of assisting Christine. We all know that "$$ Talks & BS walks" When a man puts his hand in his pocket to help others thats real folks.
An unselfish instance such as this markedly strengthens our hobby & the whole collecting community as well. We have so many Negative forces from all directions pulling at us all of the time. We need to constantly pull together as a rather unique "Band of Brothers (Collectors)" because no one is going to help us .. except ourselves.
Id add my Opinion that JR should receive the GDC Community Service Award.

I received a couple of nice daggers this week including a beauty from Houston. I know that some great things have happened to Wagner recently and Christine too. So in essence, when an incident like this happens, sometimes the reward comes back to you in spades............you just need to be able to recognize all the non-obvious signs. We thank you all for the kind words. Christine, Wagner, JR

I couldn't agree more JR. Thank yor for all your help here. If you didn't spot it...well the items sure would have gone through who knows how many hands. And for taking the pro-active position with no self-interest but to try to help all parties involved. A community service award is well due. I thank all the kind members that have lent support and words of encouragement to me. And finally yes, what we do does make a difference. Eventhough the owner now says he doesn't want to sell the items...I feel a lot "richer" without them, by having the experiance that I had with you all. THANK YOU!

My hat is off to JR for doing the right thing in this matter.
But can you imagine taking two SS edged weapons worth 13K and dropping them off at Kinko's ? You'd have to be dumber than a sack of hammers!!

A FANTASTIC CONCLUSION!!! I applaud JR, Wagner, and Christine, well done guys! I agree also with Houston that there need to be come community service awards handed out. But what about the "Jail a scumbag" award??? I mean the guy is in custody now due to the efforts of these fine members! I think that pretty much fits the bill doesn't it?
GREAT JOB GUYS!!! I LOVE a happy ending! (and not just the ones you get at the asian massage parlor!) Also CHEERS to JR and Wagner for giving a reward to Christine for saving someone elses ass! Seems like a little gratitude from the original owner would be nice but... I guess you cannot have it all! WELL DONE GUYS!!!! Johnny

Wow. Very refreshing. I anticipated this story going nowhere when the story was breached here on GDC awhile back. Surprising ending and certainly worthy of praise to all those involved.

This reaffirms my faith in the inherent unselfishness of most people. While there are always some rotten apples around, the vast majority of people do the right things, especially if they have the good examples of people like JR, Wagner and Christine to follow.
And we all know what should be done with the rotten apples, right?

In case anyone is interested, these are the only photos that I had to work with, when I was 1st asked if I wanted to buy the pieces. It wasn't until later that day it hit me what I was looking at.

Great story and endding!! Accumulator, you are a very lucky man. All collectors should be like JR. I wonder did the kid know what was in the box and how did he find out about Christine Murphy?

Dale, The thief asked Lee what was so important in the package that he was insuring for 13K when it was mailed. And Christine was contacted when German Dagger or German Sword was google or searched on the internet. He probably knew not to contact Witty or TJ.........

Great Work JR!!!
Never argue with an idiot, he will only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. And remember the early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Has anyone ever considered a secure private courier for items of that value?
I would walk it to the buyer before i announced to the world 'come steal me..'

What's the latest on this Case?
1. When is the hearing / trial date? 2. Where is the legal jurisdiction?
I'd like to follow this one ...via the NET!!! Dave/dblmed
