Comp running like a dog and showing 100% cpu usage.

Cant remember how to get into the startup programs to shut some of them down.

Suggestions?

CTRL / ALT / DEL To bring up running processes. You can also open the run prompt and type MSCONFIG, press return and a box will open. Go to the right hand tab up top " STARTUP", and untick anything that you do not want to run when you boot the computer. If you are not sure what it is either leave it or let me know. This applies to winxp although I think it will work in win2000 as well. Hope this helps....p.s DEFRAG every month !!

Go to the start button - go to run - type in msconfig - go to the start up tab - here you can disable those startups.

Thanks gentlmen! It appears that yesterday for some reason I was using 2 seperate e-mail accounts on multiple Isp's and somehow threw off my mail settings, once I sychronized that, the system resources went from 100% suck down to 5-10% usage.

I dont understand that, but did the trick.
