Hello,
I was hoping to find someone who does Luft Sword Hanger Restoration work for a sword that is missing the leather hanger and box clip. Has anyone ever had this done with sucess, I know Don Swanson will re-do metal scabbards but does anyone specialize in this.

Thanks Eric

Hello Eric, here's my story. I once bought a mint aluminum Luft sword at a MAX Show. It had no hanger attached, but I bought it anyway. I then bought a 'not so nice' Luft sword that did have the hanger. It took me many, many hours, but I carefully cut the stitches on the leather hanger and removed it from the origional sword it was attached to. Prior to this, I went to a craft store and matched the thread perfectly. I placed the hanger on my mint sword, and with needle and thread sewed it in place using the exact origional holes in the leather. Next, I used a very small amount of blue cream shoe/leather polish, on the hanger. No one, and I mean no one, can ever tell that this was a replacement. I then sold the 'not so nice' Luft sword to a dealer (minus the hanger) and recouped most of my money. A long process to be sure, but I think worth it. I now have a mint sword with the proper hanger, slightly increasing the value. It takes determination, patience and of course some skill, but it worked for me. Good luck.

Thanks Thule,
I might have to have a go at it, just need a box clip. If anyone has one see my post in the wanted forum.

Thanks Eric

Eric, The box clip is part of the hanger, not really a seperate part. If you do what I did, the box clip will already be attached to the hanger. Just find a sword in lousy condition and as long as the leather hanger is good, you can switch it onto your existing sword scabbard.
