Hi Paul, It looks as though you've run into a spot of very good luck with this very handsome veteran's banner. These were usually sewn by the wives and relatives of male members of the organizations, or clubs, much like a modern day quilting project. The new flags would then be ceremoniously christened, or presented, and proudly carried by that club to all social/organizational events, military parades, etc. Your banner originates from Ketsch (on the Rhine), which is a municipality in the district of Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, in Baden- Württemberg. It definitely is a military/veteran's organization which states, "Baden's Honor, Glory and Deeds do We Soldiers Hold in Esteem." The shield is the red/gold crest of Baden-Baden flanked by two griffons. The other side portrays an image of 'Germania,' holding the crown and nice Luftwaffe-looking sword. This also looks to be one of the nicer, better quality flags, as these items run the gamut from average to extraordinary talent and quality. I've seen a few that were real knockouts in both style and materials and fetched some very good prices. The real treat comes when you get to study one of these embroidered works up close and personal, as Paul can now attest to ... A great addition to anyone's collection and thanks for taking time to share it with our forum members. Good collecting to all! Bill Ps ... see, good clean living pays off once again ...

great banner - been collecting these for years and never gotten one direct from a vet. as you have read in bills reply, these vets banners run from plain to extraordinary, i would put this one somewhere at the upper end of the scale thanks for putting it on the forum, if you ever decide to part with it please let me know..
best of luck collecting peter

It seems the vet is the same as the one Kurs met years ago. Can you make a connection to him for me? I would like to ask him uestions about when he went thru my hmetown and what he saw or even still has? Thanks Dirk

I would imagine that all the flags were kept in one central location, quite possibly the local NSDAP headquarters, for this one vet to have obtained so many of the towns organizational flags, banners and pennants.. Dirk, one step closer!! I remember him telling me that his unit was a contruction battalion, and they had so many souvenirs, the flags were untouched till almost the last day they were in the town..It's a shame i too did not ask for the name of the man, but it was a busy show and he was a walk-in looking to sell.

Too bad, I know where the NSDAP had their home, the house is still there but all the old ones have gone by now. I understand right that you sold the flag already? can youplease send me pictures of the flag in a good resolution please. Maybe next time when the man walks in again, we should ask him for his name. Tahnks agin Dirk

This is a little bit O.T. but does anyone happen to know the whereabouts of the Standart for Kriegerverein Mensfelden? I still have a set of tassels that were with it originally and would be happy to give them to the current owner. I sold this rig years ago, along with Mensfelden's Nazi period one that also included the pole and top.

Denny,
That's one heck of a nice gesture, hope you'll reunite the tassels to the flag.
You have the true collector spirit, our hobby needs more fine gentlemen like you!
Sincerely,
Bill Warda
