If you are watching Ebay, you have noticed a large number of non German Daggers being auctioned by Mohawk Auctions. This appears to be a collection someone is selling. I do not know the owners or much about Mohawk auctions but this is opportunity if you need any of the daggers for your collection.

I urge caution however, while I have not looked at indepth photos of the pieces, I see several reproductions and fantasy daggers we have discussed before. At the same time, there are a lot of rare daggers and Mohawk arms seems to be doing their best to describe them properly.

Here is a link to one of the post war fantasy daggers we have discussed.
http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/Unknown-Romanian-pre-1945-dress-dagger_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ28268QQitemZ6571335111QQrdZ1

I suggest that if you are interested in any you go ahead and discuss them here.

Jim,

I don't know anything about these particular items being auctioned, but I do know Ray Zyla of Mohawk Arms. He is an honest man whom you can do business with confidently.

Hi Denny. Thank you for your reference. I have no doubt he runs an honest auction as I indicated above. However, he is not all that knowledgeable in non German daggers which is why I will be listing the questionable daggers here, as we always do, to help our members.

This is certainly not a comment about the auction house, just the daggers being sold.

Some of the daggers being offered I recognize from Ebay auctions where they were discussed and dismissed as repros or fantasy, and it appears now the buyer is auctioning off the entire lot at a substantial increase in price. I have no doubt that Mohawk arms is going by the sellers certification they are original.

Later today I will give a complete list of those daggers I believe are suspect.

Here goes.

These are daggers I can comment on with just the basic photos and descriptions they supply. As I went through the daggers, I had many questions on other daggers offerred, but without photos I can not be sure.

Again, if any of the members are interested in any of the daggers, they should inquire on this forum.

Item 6570798976 Bulgarian Police Officers. I believe this is a bulgarian justice officials dagger but model 1946-47, not the 30's. This is a difficult dagger to find.

6571314167 M1925 River forces Dagger-Hungarian. Modern reproduction. Blade is dead giveaway. I remember when these came out about 10 years ago. At the militaria shows in Germany, you could find all three reproductions together at most tables. That was the Austro Hungarian, Bulgarian River Forces, and A silvermodel. The M1925 River Forces is one of the rarest dagger that exists.

6571322235 Hungarian Fire Police Dagger. These started appearing shortly after the fall of the wall in 1989. Ther apparently may have been a couple of originals but I doubt if this is one. However, get photos if you are interested as it is worth discussing.

6571329935 M1921 Romainian AF. Scabbard, grip pommel, all ok to me. The problem is that originals have an etched blade with a propeller motif. I think this my be original except the blade.

6571325734 Polish Navy post WWII. This is a post 1989 dagger built for the tourists.

6571328078 Polish AF post WWII Same as the Navy. Built for tourists.

6571328561- Polish Post WWII Air Force. Absolutely original. This is the early silver plated model.

6571340725 - Austro Hungarian M1917 names Dagger. Modern Reproduction in silver.

These are just the ones I note. I will be asking for photos on several and suggest you do the same.

I had a problem with this auction house last spring when they showed a bayonet with knot and frog and what I got was a plain bayonet no knot or frog. The picture had been taken out of a book. Never did get a settlement out of them so be careful of the pictures and ask questions .

Dutchy, thank you for the kind words, but I do not hold myself up as an expert. I simply have the email addresses of the experts and can get answers.

Paul, sorry about your experieince. I am surprised you could not get a resolution to the problem. I understand members, including myself, are having problems getting photos of the auction items.

I've had some luck with Mohawk-Arms-Inc auction.
I've bid and won this Polish dagger.
For grand total of $420.00 I got the not-so-bad (in my opinion) condition dagger described very accurately.
One thing in the description was slightly inaccurate: "White (split) bakelite grip"...
Of course it has turned to be the real ivory grip as I suspected.
The upper scabbard fitting was placed in wrong way and it's take me 1 minute to fix it!
I'm thinking about the restoration project.
Here some pics:

Great Score Walter,

You would not have gotten it so cheaply if I had the bidding time right on the auction.

Sure, Jim.
That's the whole blade (note, the tip is not-so needle pointed like most Borowski daggers)

Congratulation on the dagger Walter. Did you attend the auction in person? It is not too far from Montreal I believe.

Hello Stephane!
No, I wasn't the "floor bidder" - I have not even idea where the place is.
Bouckville, NY is the location.
