What do you guys think of this ebay seller collectorp60?

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=V...0&sort=3&completed=1

He sells these Wehrmacht leather overcoats one after another for what seems to be a pretty good price.
He offers no returns, but his feedback is 168 and perfect, with many comments on how nice the coats are.

I would like to have one of these coats at his price, normally under $150=$40 shipping, but it would be nice to see what you guys more 'in the know' think.

Thanks.....tjp

One thing with these coats is that they may not be military coats. Most of these were private purchase and would not have issue markings anywhere. These coats are found quite often in Germany, some people wear those, but they are damn heavy. Similar coats have been made 'til long after the war. They can be obtained through German ebay. He may buy those there and flip them on the American ebay.

This particular coat looks like a modern civilian coat to me. Maybe it's the dark picture, but I don't see the buttons down the front, and like to see the classic turned back cuffs.

Return of the "Gestapo" coat.....

These types of Leather Greatcoats have been coming onto the market for many years, usually advertised as coats of the "Gestapo".

Black leather was less common during the period for all except the Kriegsmarine/ The coats of the other services are typically in greys.

And as Johann has said, look at the styling, not very military looking. This civilian pattern suggests 1960-70's vintage.

Correct. Long, heavy trenchcoats -- apparently Germany's version of the famous (still made) Burberry English trench from WWI -- were made from the 1920s-on. I wore mine (ex-Jim Atwood) for about 18 years on cold days.

They are standard civilian items and can be seen in many period press pix by ordinary civilvians.

Sure, a few military generals added sh. boards
but that was "generals' privelege" and was rare. The standard item was a leather coat in the same configuration as the cloth o'coat.

No doubt new collectors or "Gestapo agent wannabes" lust for such things - but no one should think these are "Wehrmacht coats" because they aren't.

If cheap enough they work very well in cold weather as a top coat.
